The Stuff4SALE network is for local users to buy, sell and auction items within their local area.
"www.stuff4saleinhull.co.uk" went live on October 17th 2005. The Hull marketplace was chosen to launch the concept as the area has a strong classified tradition of buying and selling.
Here are the stats from the first 8 weeks of its launch:
The site regularly has 8500 unique users viewing over 160,000 pages
6650 items have been placed for sale on the site since launch
70% of the items have one or more photos
9289 users have registered to be part of the stuff4sale community.
The progress and adoption of the concept by the online users encouraged the launch of a stuff4sale site in the adjoining Grimsby and Scunthorpe areas. This was an important launch, as the need was to see if organic growth could be created with a cold start. Hull might have had an amount of equity from an earlier pilot project which took place this summer called Bid2buy.
"www.stuff4saleingrimsby.co.uk" went live on December 5th 2005 with a soft launch and no publicity. Within the first 7 days 267 items had been placed for sale, just from people finding the site on the main portal www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk. A week later promotion started and the number of private items for sale increased to 454 (as at December 20th 2005). This growth from a standing start and at a slow time of the year was a sign of success for the concept in another market.
